Our food...

Our restaurant features the widest range of exotic foods that you are likely to find on Samui – with a range of European style dishes too, to ensure we cater for all tastes.

In addition to mouth-wateringly fresh seafood (fetched daily from the local fisherman’s market), you could try crocodile, ostrich, venison, wild boar or even snapping turtle! Take a peak at some items selected from our extensive menu for more details.

Our dishes are served to authentic Thai standards and the strongest recommendation we have is that many of our customers are local Thai people who come back time and time again.

That means our spicy dishes are hot! If this is not to your taste then please let us know and we will moderate the recipe accordingly. We suggest you only order ‘extra hot’ if you really mean it!!! (Some diners, used to tourist restaurant ‘Thai’ food, have occasionally asked us for extra spicy - but then regretted it.) If you are not sure what to have then we will be happy to recommend a dish to suit your tastes.

Authentic Thai style…
While dining at Chailay please bear in mind that we serve our guests in the local tradition. Thai people generally share their meals, happily helping themselves from all the dishes on the table, especially those ordered by their friends! We can recommend this approach, especially if you are overwhelmed by the wide choice of exotic dishes available!
 
Eating is a social function and the Thai’s are a patient nation, happy to eat the food as it appears, in whatever order it comes. This may seem chaotic to Western eyes but is pretty much down to the size of the restaurant kitchen. Like ours, they are invariably small! Often smaller than the average western domestic kitchen in a mid-sized home…
 
At Chailay, like most Thai restaurants, the food is generally cooked in a wok and brought to the table as soon as it is ready - to clear kitchen space and give the hungry customers something to get started on! Western style demands plated meals appearing for every diner simultaneously. To cater for this we could expand our kitchen, install hotplates and put up our prices... but we hope you would prefer to eat Thai style!
 
However, if this is not to your liking we will do our best to deliver your meal in whatever way you want to ensure an enjoyable eating experience.
